Where to Start When Selling Your Home

Video Transcript:

Now that you’ve decided to put your home on the market, the overwhelm is setting in and you’re asking yourself where to start? Here are a few guidelines to follow to get your home sold faster and for more money. Hi everyone, I’m Sandra Brenner with Steve Hill of the Brenner Hill Team at Windermere and we’ve helped hundreds of sellers throughout the Greater Seattle area sell their homes and we understand the overwhelm.

We’ve found that by having a plan to follow, you can better prepare your home for buyers. The first thing you can do, and this is a big one and everyone needs to do it in some form, and that is to declutter and deep clean your home. This can be a long process, so the sooner you start, the better. Take a really good look at each room and pack up anything you won’t want and need for the next few months. This also includes personal items like family photos. And remember, you’ll need to pack this stuff up anyway, so you might as well get ahead and start. Next, you want to make sure that your home is spic and span. By decluttering and cleaning your home, it will look much bigger and brighter. Also, when a buyer sees a dirty home, they may feel that the home has not been well kept and we don’t want to give buyers any reason to look elsewhere. Help your home shine to perspective buyers by polishing any hardware like door knobs and handles on your cabinets, make sure your floors shine, your grout is clean, and windows are clean inside and out.

The second thing on your list is to complete any of those pesky little projects that you’ve started but didn’t get around to finishing. You’ll wanna make sure that structural and mechanical items are in good working order. So that would be items like your furnace and hot water tank.

Number three, if your home hasn’t had a fresh coat of paint on the walls for a while, you may want to consider painting. Although you may really like that purple kitchen, it may make your kitchen look like a cave to a prospective buyer.

These are some great tips for the inside, but now I want you to think about creating a great first impression, which brings us to number four, curb appeal. To learn more about this and for more practical steps you need to think about when selling your home, just watch the next video. These steps will help you in selling your home faster and for more money. For more information, feel free to reach out to us here at the Brenner Hill Team.
