The Greenwood Neighborhood
The popular Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle WA includes both traditional homes along with newer construction. The main commercial area of Greenwood is at the corner of 85th and Greenwood. This area is dotted by numerous bars, restaurants, coffee houses, theaters and specialty stores along with major local retailers like Fred Meyer, Safeway and Bartell’s Pharmacy. Since 1993 the neighborhood has hosted the Greenwood Classic Car Show on the last Saturday in June. Another annual event is the Greenwood Seafair Parade, held on the fourth Wednesday in July. Both events draw tens of thousands of visitors to the neighborhood. Greenwood is about 15 minutes into downtown via Aurora or I-5.
The original Greenwood Park was previously a commercial nursery and greenhouse for many years and was acquired by Seattle Parks and Recreation in November 1999 through the Seattle Open Space Program. The Greenwood community was very involved in the development of the park. Over the years, Seattle Parks and Recreation acquired the properties on the east side of the park with the final acquisition in 2013. The park is now the entire city block. The park includes a play area, a “game garden” with ping pong, tetherball and cornhole, a sports court, P-Patch, large open lawn, ADA walkways, large trees, and BBQ with picnic area. This park provides great open space for the growing neighborhood.
For the bicycle enthusiast, you will appreciate the Interurban Trail that is a mostly paved bike trail between Seattle and Everett that stitches together a dense residential and commercial patchwork that the original electric railway helped to grow in the early part of the 20th century. The trail goes from Seattle north through the communities of Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds, and Lynnwood.
Looking for some great places to eat? Look no further than the many restaurants along the Greenwood commercial corridor. Gordito’s Mexican Food is a neighborhood institution where you can fill up on authentic Mexican food, you are guaranteed not to leave hungry. Craving Italian? Razzi’s Pizzeria offers pizza and Italian comfort food plus extensive vegan & gluten-free menus. The highly rated Flint Creek Cattle Company offers American food emphasizing sustainably raised beef, plus game & cocktails.
