Steve and I say this all the time, we could work anywhere, but couldn’t imagine working anywhere else. We’ve each been licensed for over 16 years and in those years, we’ve only worked at the Windermere Northwest office. We’ve had managers come and go. We’ve changed ownership once. But what hasn’t changed is the beautiful group of colleagues and office staff who truly care about each other and the community.
Our office has a few favorite organizations that we’ve supported for years. Broadview Thompson School is one of them. Broadview Thompson is a very diverse school with over 55% minorities. Students are from all over the word, speaking over 36 languages. At the beginning of each school year we fill lots of back backs with school supplies for low income kids to help them get off to a great start. Hopefully, kids will be returning to classrooms this fall! Shopping for school supplies and filling the back packs is a several week project that our entire office enjoys. We are one of the first companies they call when they are in need of donations, or they have a family with specific needs.
During the holidays we “adopt” families through the Salvation Army. This involves shopping for kids and adults so that everyone has a gift. One year Steve and I went to several stores to find just the right set of sneakers for a teenager girl. This was probably going to be her only real gift and we wanted to get her exactly what she asked for! Another fun event is our Santa Paws. We always collect lots of pet food for the Seattle Animal Shelter and Seattle Area Feline Rescue.
When the Stay Home Stay Healthy order came out, it become quickly apparent that Food Banks were in serious need of funds and donations. Our Windermere office has been raising money for three local organizations to help fight the growing need in our communities. Our main support has gone to the Bitter Lake Food Bank. This is an organization that has a special place in our hearts. Our office has worked with the Bitter Lake Food Bank, formerly Greenwood Food Bank, for a number of years. We always have a bin for food donations in our office, plus we have a couple of organized food drives during the year that correspond with other events. They are often the recipient for our annual Windermere Service Day. This is always a fun event for our office. We sort and pack food and do a deep cleaning of the facilities. We support the Bitter Lake Food Bank not only because they are right in our neighborhood, but what you might be surprised to learn is that senior citizens make up the majority of clients served by this food bank. Food insecurity in America is troubling, but I find it even more so when it is our most vulnerable segments of our population – the elderly and children.
Our office has also raised and donated money for the Ballard Food Bank. They are partnering with Broadview Thompson School to be a food distribution site for students. The Seattle School District has been providing sack lunches and even providing weekend meal support. Broadview Thompson is one of the distribution sites for the program.
Another great organization that we have donated to is Food is Love North Chapter. They are working to bring restaurants back to work making food for people who need it. Several restaurants around the city are participating. FareStart has recently partnered with them. This is a great example of individuals, small businesses and non-profits coming together to help solve a problem.
Steve and I and our entire office are happy to support these organizations. I feel very blessed to be working with such compassionate, caring people. Together, we will get through this!
Adoptable Pets at the Seattle Animal Shelter
Artemis is seriously a sweetheart and loves everyone she meets. She is about two years old and is potty trained, crate trained and knows several basic commands such as ‘sit’ and ‘down’. She loves playing fetch with toys, going on long walks, and cuddling on her human’s lap. Her favorite place to sleep is under the covers right next to her human. Artie enjoys playing with other dogs but would likely need to be fed separately from the other dog; she could also do well with a cat with a slow introduction. Artemis can get uncomfortable when people approach her around the food dish so she is looking for an adult-only family that understands how to manage this behavior as well as continue to work with her to help set her up for success. She will reward you with plenty of cuddles, excitement and love.
Meet Aurora! She is a fine 6 year old lady, and knows what she wants in life. She is happy to let you know when she’s ready for affection with some affectionate head bumps and vocal meows. She is best with a regular food and litterbox cleaning routine, and is happy to spend the day snoozing away in view of your work from home setup. Give her some time to warm up to you, and she’ll give you plenty of warm gazes, and affirming licks when you’re giving head scratches just right. Aurora can take care of amusing herself most days, but she spends most of her time keeping a watchful – albeit snoozy – eye on her favorite humans to make sure they’re okay throughout the day. Aurora likes a clean litterbox, and a calm environment.
Like Stuart Little, this handsome, hoppy boy has lead a life adventure. His experiences have made him cautious and independent. However, this young guy has shown his adaptability and is content with being picked up and warms up after time and treats. Baxter is a gentle bun that is sure to find his way into someone’s patient and loving heart.
Vanilla is a lovely one year old Guinea Pig girl that enjoys a good brushing and plenty of romp time. She can be a bit shy and will need some time to warm up to you, but give her some greens and a slice of orange and she’ll be happy. When she’s not munching on food or getting her beauty rest, she likes to explore her surroundings and find new nooks and crannies to investigate. Blanket forts and cardboard castles are her favorite.
Zeus strikes an Olympian-like image with his strong physique and his stunning marbled fur that appears as lightening in a thunderstorm. However, the sparkle in his eyes and lolled out tongue reveal so much more of who this dog is. This is a truly loyal dog ready to tackle any task on hand. He is smart, focused and a people pleaser. He is ready to work for your love. Whether that be as a hiking companion, ball catcher or running buddy he is there for you. His intellect will make him a quick study and his loyalty will make him an invaluable member of your family. He matches his energy to those around him to mingle right along with the family. He wouldn’t mind having a cohort that’s a match in size and energy, who likes to rough and tumble! Zeus is an incredible canine companion all around. His energy and loyalty make him a fantastic outdoor companion. And his heart will melt yours with his desire for belly rubs, pets and time spent with his family.
